To honour the ever evolving sandwich, as it celebrates British Sandwich Week this week from the 14th-20th May, we've complied a roundup of some of our favourite classic sandwiches with a rather intriguing twist...
The British Sandwich Association defines a sandwich as "any form of bread with a filling, generally served cold", so this falafel-filled 'naan-wich' is the perfect combination of a traditional filling in a new, pillowy naan bread form.
2. Roasted Asparagus Grilled Cheese
Whether devoured as a late night snack or packed from an indulgent lunch treat, the grilled cheese sandwich is a national favourite. Topped off with the simple twist of some charred asparagus to create the ultimate melty comfort food. You go gruyere.
3. Cheddar Buttermilk Waffle BLT Sandwich
A trusty BLT (bacon, lettuce and tomato, for any of those not in the sandwich know) wedged inside two cheesy waffles to make a next level breakfast-worthy sandwich concoction. Technically not a bread...but potentially even better?
4. Vietnamese Rolls
Blend a French-inspired loaf with a delicious Vietnamese filling to construct this impressive Bánh mi roll. Cleverly combining fluffy baguette with crunchy Asian flavours to generate some serious lunchbox envy.
5. Croque Madame
Turning to the French again for this classic creation with an egg-cellent twist. Turn your Croque Monsieur to a Madame by topping with an oozingly-good runny egg. Too good to eat? Never.
Happy sandwich eating!
