Christmas in my City…

From Europe to America, small town to big city, Christmas Eve to Boxing Day, we asked a few of our international hush friends where and how they spend the festive season...

Where do you usually spend Christmas?
I always stay in Antwerp so I’m close to friends and family. I’ve never been out of the country or on holidays during Christmas, and I don’t think I’d ever like to switch the snow for sun on December 25th: the entire run up to Christmas just makes me so happy!

Who are you spending Christmas with this year?
This year the boyfriend and I are having lunch at his parents' first and dinner at my parents' in the evening, so it will be quite the food binging day.

How do you get in the festive spirit?
Lots of cinnamon or gingerbread candles, lots of Christmas lights and setting up my tree of course! In Belgium we have the children’s tradition of Sinterklaas on December 6th and we shouldn't set up the Christmas tree before that day, so I’m always stoked when I can finally get out all of my decorations the day after.

Where would you go Christmas shopping in your city?
There’s lots of great places and streets for gift shopping in Antwerp, but a few favourites are Steen & Been (beautiful fossils, minerals and taxidermy for your home), Mark (interior stuff, books and even bikes) and Juttu (a mix of clothes, interiors and food, but all with local brands).

Where do you go for mulled wine and mince pies (or your equivilant)?
We don’t really have any Christmas food traditions here in Belgium, but the best Christmas cookies in town are by Philip’s Biscuits. My godmother always buys them for me, it’s something I look forward to the entire year!

What will you be wearing over the festive period?
I’m not a huge fan of sequins and glitters, so I’ll probably stick to sheer fabrics and statement jewellery to make my look festive enough. A velvet top with palazzo pants would be a great option too! Hides the food baby like a pro.

And finally, what’s on your hush Christmas wish list?
The Ali Velour Tee is right up my alley, and I wouldn’t mind curling up in that stunning Cashmere Boyfriend Jumper knit! Oh,and for glitter on shoes I’ll make an exception. I’ll have the Dragon boots, please!

Where do you usually spend Christmas?
My Christmas tradition is to celebrate it in Torino (Turin), my hometown in Italy. I usually spend Christmas Eve outside, for a dinner with my boyfriend's parents and their closest friends, and then Christmas day at home, with my family.

Who are you spending Christmas with this year?
Family always comes first at Christmas: parents, aunties and grandparents all together in my living room, eating delicious meals prepared by my beloved mommy!

How do you get in the festive spirit?
I love decorating the house, my work space, the car and, of course, finding the tallest Christmas tree I can to fit in my living room! Last year we decorated it with all my childhood decorations: it's was amazing!

Where would you go Christmas shopping in your city?
In the city centre I always find everything I need, both high street and designer brands. The festive lights on the shopping streets have been switched on since October and all the window displays are Christmas-ready, so gift shopping is a very special experience there!

Where do you go for mulled wine and mince pies (or your equivalent)?
In Turin my favourite place for a slice of "Panettone" or "Pandoro" and a cappuccino is Floris House, the most magical fragrance boutique and cafè of the whole city.

What will you be wearing over the festive period?
I'll be wearing the most sparkling pieces in my wardrobe and, of course, a lot of red and gold details!

And finally, what’s on your hush Christmas wish list?
My hush wish list for Christmas is the beautiful camel Christie Coat, a key piece you can't miss in your wardrobe during the winter season.

Where do you usually spend Christmas?
At my home in the city of Atlanta, Georgia!

Who are you spending Christmas with this year?
My husband, Trey, and I just got married in September of this year and we are really looking forward to our first Christmas together in our little place in Atlanta. We will be celebrating with our friends in the city and we will also be traveling home to see our close families on Christmas day.

How do you get in the festive spirit?
Nothing gets me in the mood for Christmas more than a Frank Sinatra Christmas album on repeat and a day spent decorating. I’m hoping to find a good Sinatra Christmas vinyl this year. I also love bundling up for a date night in downtown, walking around to see the lights and trees set up everywhere. That’s the nice thing about living in the city - there’s always elaborate décor to go out and look at.

Where would you go Christmas shopping in your city?
My favourite gifts to give are the unique, heartfelt kind so I tend to spend more time looking through antique stores for cool art, décor pieces, music, and other little things I stumble upon to give to people. Luckily, Atlanta has a ton of little hole in the wall shops full of treasure to look through and that’s where you’ll probably find me.

Where do you go for mulled wine and mince pies (or your equivalent)?
For me, I like going to cosy cafes for treats when it’s chilly out. This year, I’m really excited to go to Café Intermezzo in Atlanta. The place has such a cool, cozy atmosphere, good coffee and cocktails, and nutella crepes that I’m dying to get my hands on. Who can beat that?

What will you be wearing over the festive period?
This year, I’m really into anything faux fur, star print, and sparkly (duh). I’ve been trying to have a little more fun with fashion and my own personal style recently so I’m really excited to put some looks together for the holidays. Beaded AND tasselled? Absolutely.

And finally, what’s on your hush Christmas wish list?
Right now, I’m obsessing over the Glitter Easy Dress, the Lightning Glitter Clutch, and the Skinny Star Print Scarf. Did I say I was into stars and sparkles this season? I am also loving green and the Jada Knit Tunic in Ivy looks like a perfectly cosy piece I would love. Because sparkles every day might be overkill by December 25th...
