Cool Places to Camp this Summer

Whether you want to sleep under the stars, scale half way up a mountain with your tent, share a field with elephants or simply go back to basics... we've rounded up 5 unusual and incredibly cool places to camp at this summer from across the globe, with the help of camping expert Chris Santella.

Embracing our inner sense of adventure, we appreciate the idea of camping can split a crowd - a dream for some, a nightmare for others - but when you see the incredible locations Chris suggests to pitch up at, you may change your mind entirely about sleeping outdoors...

Here are 5 of our favourite destinations: 

1. Abu Camp

Only reachable by plane, Abu safari Camp in Botswana, located in the isolated African bush is unlike any other camping site. With luxury five-star style tents and elephants as your fellow campers, it offers a rare intimate experience with untouched wild life. 


2. Yosemite National Park

Breathtakingly beautiful, Yosemite valley is almost too good to be true. Filled with cascading waterfalls, giant sequoia trees, rugged rock cliffs and snow capped mountains, the iconic national park in California is any campers, hikers or outdoor-lovers dream. 


3. Torres del Paine National Park

Fancy snuggling up in a comfy bed and sleeping under a blanket of crystal clear stars? The EcoCamp in Torres del Paine National Park, Chile, offers "glamping" in a specially designed geodesic dome, complete with a unbeatable starry night sky. 


4. Waldseilgarten Höllschlucht

Calling all camping thrill seekers, this high-elevation portledge allows all guests at Waldseilgarten Höllschlucht to take their tent to new levels (literally). Located southwest of Munich, Germany, spend a night suspended up high surrounded by stunning mountain views, if you dare...


5. Norrfällsviken

Combining comfortable, classic camping with the charm of an old fishing village, on the postcard worthy coast of Sweden, Norrfällsviken is a locals favourite. Pitch up near sea for a traditional camping activities including cycling, hiking, boating and of course, fishing.
