To ward off our holiday blues (and only slightly inspired by a recent TV addiction), we've rounded up our favourite luxury island retreats for some late summer sun. From Ibiza's hottest new opening to barefoot luxury on the Aegean Sea, it turns out you don't have to travel far to find amazing beaches, azure waters and warm temperatures...

Since the 1960s, Ibiza has been synonymous with hedonism, but there's an alternative peaceful and - dare we say it - upmarket side to the island. The parties are still going (if you want noisy fun, some of Ibiza’s bestloved clubs are dotted in or close to the capital) but, with a clutch of stylish new restaurants, bars and hotels, the tone is definitely changing on the White Isle.
Cue Ibiza’s newest luxury hotel, The Seven Pines Resort Ibiza (enter our competition here!), opening in March 2018. Situated on a cliff-top on the edge of a pine forest overlooking turquoise waters, Seven Pines promises laid-back luxury and easy style on the west coast of the island. Book now for next September - surely the best antidote for even the worst case of post-holiday depression!

Sardinia's Costa Smeralda has all the essential ingredients of a luxury enclave: stunning beaches; a romantic rugged backdrop of granite peaks; and fabulous seafood. The super-luxe Hotel Cala di Volpe remains the place to be seen here - located only ten minutes from the glamour of Porto Cervo, it has a private beach accessible by boat and restaurants and bars (as frequented by James Bond in The Spy Who Loved Me - the movie was filmed here in 1977).

Arguably the most dramatic of all the Greek islands, Santorini must surely also hold the title for most romantic. At Grace Santorini, bedrooms are stylish and sexy - most have a private terrace and plunge pool for two - and boast stunning views over the vast volcanic bay. Enjoy champagne cocktails served by the pool, or try a tailor-made excursion as organised by their 'Bespoke by Grace' service, which include a private vineyard tour, or couples' Catamaran hire.

Mykonos is renowned as one of the Mediterranean’s most lively night-time islands, but it has an altogether more rustic, authentic feel compared with some of its Aegean neighbours. For a charming slice of pared-down luxury opt to stay at boutique hotel San Giorgio - where the whole approach is to make you feel as if you're at home; or perhaps at a (super stylish) friend's villa that you've been lent the keys to for the weekend... interiors inspo aplenty.
